Summer bass fishing can be fun but it can also be tough in late season when the water stays so warm. Some of our best success this past summer came with fishing a drop shot in some deeper water. The video below was shot in the middle of July on Shearon Harris Lake. Daytime temperatures are running consistently in the mid 90’s and the water temperature was right at 90 degrees. We fished top water in the morning and also fished the banks and never caught a fish in the shallows. Most of the bass we caught today were in 7 to 10 feet of water off the main lake points. A drop shot rig works great for summer bass fishing when the bass are in deeper and cooler water. We talk about our setup in the video a little more but we are using a medium action rod with a spinning reel as it works great when finesse fishing. Everything you need to get started drop shot fishing is listed and linked below and don’t forget to check out the video!
